Cassiopeia: The Queen

Cassiopeia is another popular constellation, and very easy to spot in the night sky. She can be found near Ursa Major, and her five brightest stars make a \/\/ in the sky. She gets her name and her story from a Greek myth.

Cassiopeia was married to the king of Ethiopia, Cepheus, and together they had a daughter named Andromeda. Cassiopeia was widely known for her beauty, which she herself vainly revelled in. She made the mistake of claiming she was even more beautiful than Hera, the queen of the gods. For this, she and Cepheus were told the only atonement was to sacrifice their daughter to the sea-beast. Andromeda was shackled to a mountain side when Greek hero Perseus rescued her and took her away, making her his wife. Cassiopeia was still allowed entrance to the heavens, but as one final humiliation, she was hung upside-down, and must now forever hang with her skirt around her shoulders.
