Taurus: The Bull

Taurus is pictured in the sky as the head and shoulders of a great bull.

Though in astrology, Taurus is described as stubborn and self-indulgent, the old Greek myth says otherwise. In the myth, the king of gods, Zeus, was taken with a mortal princess called Europa, but he knew that he could not be with her, lest the woman suffer the wrath of his wife and queen, Hera. It is for this reason that Zeus transformed himself into a snowy white bull and went to Europa. She was impressed by the gentleness of the bull and soon began to spend much of her time with him. A time later, the bull gestured for Europa to climb upon his back, and she did; it was then that the bull swam to sea with her until they'd reached the island of Crete. It was there that Zeus transformed and revealed his true identity to her.
